Out by the 15th

I moved out of an apartment that I loved very much and lived in for a year. I had to leave because it was time for a change, but I needed a ritual for saying goodbye to the space. For the week leading up to my official move-out date, the 15th of December, 2021, I left a spell in the otherwise emptied apartment. It was a spell for the integration of shadows and ghosts, and it was comprised only of things that I made in that space, in the time I lived there. Each piece of writing or drawing was actually a spell of its own - I did a lot of healing and yearning over the course of 2021, and I did it through making, writing, moving and creating performance. The objects I left in the space were the artifacts of those spells, or the spells themselves (the medium is the message, baby). For the week of the installation, I came back to the space every day at sunset, and stayed until the light left the apartment completely. Because it was the darkest time of year, the whole β€œshow” took place from about 4:30 to 5 every day. It got darker faster, every day, which was good β€œletting go” practice. On the opening night, friends came and shared songs, poems, and stories about transitions, ghosts, and leaving.

This page is under construction - I will be typing up versions of some of the writing-objects that were featured.
